GOVERNANCE - LEADERSHIP THROUGH VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT

The Understorey Network is an Incorporated Association under Tasmanian legislation and is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. Our Constitution sets out the roadmap for how we operate and incorporates our basic structure and rules. It ensures we work towards our mission with transparency, consistency, and good governance.

The organisation is managed by a dedicated Committee responsible for overseeing operations, setting direction, and ensuring compliance with our goals. All committee members are volunteers bringing knowledge, experience, and a shared commitment to the conservation of Tasmania’s native understorey. It includes:

  • Executive Members: Julie Ayre, Wayne Goodwin, Anne Kelly, Tony Wise
  • Public Officer: Julie Ayre
  • Ordinary Members: Mary McCulloch, Cara McEwen, Karen Tie

The 2024 - 2029 Strategic Plan provides the framework for the USN work in preserving and building diversity in Tasmania’s natural environment through community-led action, education, and conservation. For long-term success, we aim to improve governance practices, seek funding opportunities and community grants, and maintain clarity, transparency, and accountability. At the USN annual general meetings the organisation’s performance is reviewed, priorities are discussed and committee members are elected.
