Habitat Notes
In forests on moister slopes and near streams throughout the eastern ranges. Sensitive to drought.In cultivation they are generally hardy and appreciate good drainage and full sun to part shade.

General Notes
Fast growing. Important in maintaining stream bank stability. Small insectivorous birds (e.g. wrens) nest in the foliage. The flowers provide food for insects. The seed are eaten by rosellas and parrots. Koori (mainland) use: The wood was used in making imnplements, such as pegs for stretching animal skins. Not suitablel below powerlines.

Collect the seed-bearing heads when they become dry and light brown. dry the heads in a paper bag, extracting seed by shaking and sieving. careful monitoring is necessary
